Rotary Central Cayman Islands Celebrates 100th Bus Shelter Installation, Marking 30 Years of Community Service
Milestone reflects three decades of Creating Lasting Impact for bus commuters across the Cayman Islands
Rotary Central Cayman Islands proudly marked a significant milestone on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with the installation of its 100th bus shelter. The milestone comes 30 years after the club installed its first bus shelter in 1996, beginning what would become one of Rotary Central’s longest-running and most visible community service initiatives.
Over the past three decades, Rotary Central Cayman Islands has remained committed not only to constructing and installing bus shelters, but also to maintaining and repairing them to ensure they continue to provide safe, practical and reliable protection for members of the community who depend on public transportation.
The installation of the 100th shelter reflects the club’s sustained commitment to improving public infrastructure and enhancing the daily lives of residents across the Cayman Islands.
At the installation, Rotary Central President Dave Hoptroff thanked everyone who has contributed to the Bus Shelter Programme throughout the years.
“Reaching our 100th bus shelter is an important and meaningful achievement for Rotary Central. For 30 years, our members, partners and supporters have worked together to provide and maintain these shelters for the benefit of the community. This milestone represents the lasting impact that can be achieved through consistent service and collaboration.”
Dave Hoptroff, Rotary Central Cayman Islands President
In March 2019, Rotary Central extended the initiative to Cayman Brac by constructing and donating two public bus shelters as a gift and fundraising opportunity for the Rotary Club of Cayman Brac. The shelters are located in Stake Bay and the Bight.
The Bus Shelter Programme has required an ongoing investment of time, resources and volunteer effort. Rotary Central continues to inspect, repair and maintain its existing shelters, while installing additional shelters in Grand Cayman where a need is identified.
Rotary Central Cayman Islands extends its sincere appreciation to its members, community partners, sponsors and volunteers whose contributions have helped sustain the initiative over the past 30 years.
As the club celebrates its 100th installation, it remains committed to maintaining this important community resource and continuing its tradition of Service Above Self.
Rotary Central Cayman Islands welcomes continued support from businesses and organisations interested in advertising within its bus shelters. This support helps sustain the ongoing maintenance of the shelters while contributing to Rotary Central’s community service initiatives.
