PROJECT SUMMARYRotary Central Cayman Islands’ Health Project 2020 kicked off this visionary year with a great start on Tuesday March 3, 2020!

The club’s Health Project 2020 included:
1. The club’s 9th Annual Island-wide Health Screening Event. Rotary Central Cayman Islands’ Annual Island-wide Health Screening Event has been the Cayman Islands’ largest health screening event to be ever held in the Islands; and has been hosted over the past eight years, which has yielded almost 8,000 screened individuals (a combination of infants through to the elderly-6mths to 98yrs).
2. The hosting of a fully club sponsored, intense Caribbean Certified Diabetes Educators’ course -tier1 (CCDE-tier1), to invited medical personnel (Rotarians and non-Rotarians) from all 11 countries (80 clubs) of District 7020. The two-day course was facilitated by well known and respected Certified Diabetes Educator of the USA and Jamaica, Mrs. Andrea Hunt.

166 ads burnt the airwaves at peak times on three of the country’s main radio stations as over 50 Rotarians prepared to join forces with over 150 community volunteers and 13 major establishments. The events were co-hosted by Charles Mattocks -TV show host/celebrity chef/actor/producer/film-maker, a fierce diabetes advocate and is a Blue Circle Champion (one of the officially recognized faces of The American Diabetes Association). Besides capturing the events of the CCDE (tier 1) course, Mattocks and his film crew roamed the island to capture health screening activities at all seven screening locations that were spread across on the island.

HOW DOES THIS ACTIVITY TIE IN WITH THE THEME SELECTED ABOVE?The goal of Health Project 2020 is the early identification of chronic diseases, and to provide guidance with seeking treatment. Ensuring the availability of additional Diabetes Educators is extremely supportive of increased community health education, the early identification of diabetes and compliance with treatment.
DESCRIBE BRIEFLY THE IMPACT OF YOUR ACTIVITY(S) IN THE COMMUNITY.601 persons received free health screening, which included free consultation with doctors, nurses, pharmacists and dietitians. Persons with critical results were sent to the emergency room. Many were referred to general practitioners for further investigation/treatment of their newly screened abnormalities. Scores of persons were sensitized to the silent presence of chronic diseases. Bearing extreme importance, the screening services were offered to persons who would not be able afford the screening services that were offered. Many were given the opportunity to live a better quality of life because they learnt about the status of their health. Many voiced the most sincere gratitude to Rotary, while many learnt for the first time that Rotary exists and zealously sought additional information about the Club.

Did you attend our Christmas Storytime event last Did you attend our Christmas Storytime event last Saturday?

If you did then we don't need to tell you how much fun it was. We don't need to remind you about the magic filled day that was. Or remind you about all the awesome readers, the magic show or the fact that Santa stopped by to visit.

In the event that you missed it swipe through some of the photos and we hope to see you next year!

Another year of the Rotary Central Christmas Carol Another year of the Rotary Central Christmas Carol Canal Cruise in the books. We saw our largest attendance yet. Our caroling vessel was decorated under guidance of ARPIC Will and made the night extra special. The tour included the canal homes along the West Bay Peninsula and North Sound. We sang, we danced and spread all the Christmas cheer along the canals. The Rotarians, Rotaractors and guests had so much fun they are already talking about next year!
